Natural clinoptilolite for ammonium and phosphate binding
Natural filter medium based on a clinoptilolite, which primarily adsorbs ammonium (NH 4 ) before it is oxidized to nitrite and nitrate in the nitrification chain. This allows the nitrate content in the aquarium system to be reduced easily and safely. In addition, iron and manganese deposits in zeolite purum are potentially able to bind phosphate in the long term. The zeolite surface is constantly abraded by the water flow and produces colloidal zeolite fractions that are bound with ammonium and phosphate and can accumulate further turbidity and waste materials. The abrasion can be effectively skimmed off, whereby ammonium and phosphate are finally exported from the system.
Recommended dosage:
Zeolite purum should be used in the fluid bed or zeolite filter process. The NO 3 and PO 4 content must be determined before use!
Initially, 100 mL of zeolite purum are placed in a filter unit per 100 L of aquarium volume. Set the water flow to approx. 500 L/h per 1 L filter volume. To check, collect the drain water for 1 minute and multiply by 60. After a week the amount of zeolite can be increased to 200
mL/100 L can be increased. The maximum volume per 100 L should not exceed 400 mL. Remove sediment and detritus deposits daily. Replace approx. 2/3 of the pure zeolite used after 2 months.
