Siliphos is an iron hydroxide-based, effective phosphate and silicate remover for marine and freshwater aquariums. The wet granules have an extremely high binding capacity and reliably solve algae problems caused by phosphate and silicate (grease and thread algae). Suitable for every filter type.

Siliphos is a fine-grained material that has been used successfully for years in industry and water management, drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment. Its highly active chemical property of adsorbing phosphates in large quantities makes it an ideal filter material for aquariums. In the aquarium, phosphates are created by the decomposition of organic substances but also by excessive feeding, plant fertilizers or decorative materials containing phosphates. Phosphates can also get into our aquarium by changing the water with tap water containing phosphates. Phosphate is an essential building block for living organisms, but is harmful in high concentrations. In saltwater aquariums, increased phosphate levels inhibit the lime synthesis of hard corals and calcareous red algae. Through nutrient enrichment, zooxanthellae of zooxanthellate corals can multiply to such an extent that they cover the coral's natural color pigments. The corals turn brown. Another indication of increased phosphate and silicate (silicic acid) concentrations is the growth of annoying red or brown algae, which often form a greasy coating over the decoration in the aquarium and can threaten the life of various organisms. A PO ₄ content of over 0.1 mg/l cannot be tolerated in modern coral reef aquariums. Siliphos is also used in saltwater aquariums to bind unwanted silicates. In freshwater aquariums, the upper limit should be 0.3 mg/l. Elevated phosphate concentrations are often to blame for various algae plagues, poor plant growth and sick fish. 840 ml for up to 3,360 l (at 0.5 mg PO ₄ /l).
